Child Marriage Robs the youth of life opportunities
Most needy people migrate to cities in search of greener pastures. Among issues that bring some children to Accra the capital city, is child marriage. Some of these girls gather courage and escape from their husband’s house. They find it difficult to go back home since they will either be recaptured or their own family will return them to their husbands. They, therefore, find solace far away from home where they go through so many tribulations before they find their feet in a strange environment.
Some of these girls that are unlucky and remain in this marriage after they are mostly kidnapped are so young that they are ignorant about everything marriage. They face so many challenges; formal education halted, maternal issues ranging from pregnancy to child care, and poverty becomes their companion.
This is why RESCUE finds it necessary to assist these victims through a national program that allow for the victims to learn a trade or engage in other economic ventures while campaigning against the act and guiding children and youth to develop themselves.
