Rescue Volunteers Ghana had a successful program which we believe has imbued positivity into the daily activities of people of Larabanga. We had a brief meeting with a selected few members of the Ghana Fire Service. The objective was to help Rescue Volunteers train and educate the communities to be safety oriented to prevent fire outbreaks. Prior to that, Rescue Ghana constructed a metal fence for the maternity ward of Larabanga health center to help fend away uninvited guest and domestic animals. Rescue also donated wheel chairs to disable persons in Larabanga to aid their movement.

Fire safety equipment was also donated and installed to help proceed with the upcoming training.  Six staff of Larabanga Health Center including four other volunteers from the community were trained on Basic Fire Fighting, Fire Safety and Prevention.

The Regional Safety Officer, Mr. Salisu M. Sirilbaini, took his turn to educate the people on fire hazards. He stated, the prevalence of fire outbreak within the dry season and bushfire being rampant in the northern zone of the country which needed to be checked and controlled.  He entreated everybody to be very careful in dealing with fire especially the children, so that nobody jeopardizes another.

He said, “it will not be palatable to hear any report or complain from farmers of their farm produce been burnt”.

The chief Imam (ing.) on behalf of the council of elders and the community thanked and recognized the efforts of Rescue Volunteers in their quest to help the vulnerable in the society.  He prayed for Rescue Volunteers Ghana to grow bigger to build the financial muscle to roll out more projects and programs in the community.

Rescue Volunteers Ghana also organized community durbar at the health facility. To inform the community about the support safety activities being carried out at the health facility by the organisation and to cooperate with staff of the health facility and volunteers of Rescue to continously implement the health and safety  program.

The youth and women were encouraged to take advantage of Rescue model programs in 2021. The in-charge of facility Mr.  Bukari Abudu used the medium to educate the community on basic ailments and their preventions, for instance malaria. He encouraged the people to always visit the clinic early anytime one is sick.

The 2020 health and safety program came to a successful end. Our gratitude goes to the Ghana Fire Service, staff of the Larabanga health facility, community leaders and entire settlers of the Larabanga community, Damango District in the Savanah Region.  Their active involvement in the program will always be appreciated.

Rescue Volunteers Ghana will like to ensure all that the program continuous in earnest in 2021.
