Rescue Liberia is committed to helping people in the Brewerville
City area and adjoining communities learn about cocoa farming.
Our cocoa farming program provides participants with in-depth
knowledge about the different processes involved in the cocoa
value chain, from farming to harvesting and storage. This allows
them to gain a better understanding of how to maximize the
potential of their crops.
According to survey in the community, even though cassava is a
high valued crop with great economic value, its significance is often
downplayed in Liberia because it is not a staple food in the country.
Compared to other crops, cassava farming requires low capital and
farm maintenance, making it an attractive option for youth with the
aim of venturing into commercial farming. Rescue with our
expertise aim to encourage the youth and assist willing
communities to develop through cassava farming in commercial
quantities due to its low start up cost and manageable workload.
Additionally all parts of cassava is highly marketable, this gives it a
long value chain that can provide employment for many people who
do not necessarily have to be on the farm.
Through our Train-the-Trainer program, we focus on teaching
participants major processes in cocoa farming, such as nursing,
transplanting, weed and pest control, pruning existing trees,
harvesting, storage and processing. Our team of volunteers is
committed to furnishing participants with personalized aid and
guidance to make sure that they are able to pass on valuable
knowledge acquired to others in the cocoa farming industry. This
makes the agriculture development program more effective and
sustainable.
In addition to learning about cocoa farming, we also provide
resources to help participants launch their own businesses. With
our assistance and guidance, they can explore new opportunities,
gain valuable experience and make positive change in the
community
